ESP is dedicated to improving the environment that surrounds us. We started out as a typical licensed pest controller. We first found out the benefits of boric acid, diatomaceous earth, cedar oil, cedar sawdust, and Effective microbes and environmentally safe cleaners. We supply feed stores, garden centers and other retailers with DE and help them to educate the general public.
After years of research, we have found that the best way to control scorpions is to dust the attic of a building with diatomaceous earth. Diatomaceous earth is the remains of microscopic phytoplankton, similar to coral, found in prehistoric freshwater sea beds. DE is ground to a talcum like consistency. When an insect comes in contact with DE it sticks to its oily exoskeleton and absorbs the oil. DE then cuts into the insect’s joints, as ground glass would to us and allows body fluids to escape. We have found that this treatment may need to be done each spring. The treatment is normally effective on the day that it is applied.

DE applied to a pets bedding and living area (pen), will control fleas, ticks, and fire ants. Put DE in an animal’s food, 1-2 % by weight, it controls parasites in the animal’s gut. Fly larvae cannot live in the animal droppings, so we also have fly control after a while. Horses, cattle, sheep, goats, dogs, cats, ostriches, chickens, pigs, deer, and any critter that walks on the face of the earth will be healthier and feel better. This can be done when the feed is stored and there will be no loss by insects in storage. We as humans eat a lot of DE as inert ingredients in baked goods and vitamins as trace minerals. I dusted DE on a scorpion a few years ago and in fifteen minutes he was affected. The animals have healthier coats, better weight gain, clearer eyes and an absence of parasites in their stools. Chickens have an improvement of the death rate and increase egg laying. In one test of dairy cattle, there was a 20% increase of milk production, without an increase in feed. There were no new cases of mastitis. DE is approximately 3% magnesium, 86% silicon, 5% sodium, 2% iron and contains many other trace minerals such as titanium, boron, manganese, copper and zirconium.

Put two inches under a house, pier & beam or slab, and there will not be an insect, termites included, enter the house. We put DE under a home west of San Antonio, Texas, where the soil moves up to 5 1/2 inches between wet and dry seasons. No slab can withstand this stress without cracking. As stated, diatomaceous earth is the remains of prehistoric microscopic mollusks that are mined with huge earth moving equipment in the United States desert southwest. After being mined, they are ground to a talcum like consistency. The grinding of the DE is very fine because we just want break up the whole diatom.

The DE can then be dusted in a duster, in our case an electric duster, not unlike a small vacuum cleaner in reverse. We dust the DE into attics of buildings and get control of insects, most of the time, the day of treatment. The principal insect is SCORPIONS. I put a scorpion in a Tupperware container with DE yesterday, it is dead today.
DE should be fed to fowl, pets and live stock, 2%-5% in their rations to clean the parasites out of their guts. The fowl, pets and livestock also acquire vitamins and minerals from the DE. After the droppings leave the fowl and animals, the droppings are lighter and dry faster, which means less odor. When flies lay their eggs in the droppings, the eggs hatch and the resulting maggots are killed. If these droppings are used as fertilizer, the soil that they are used in/on is lighter and produces a better growing media.
DE can be spread on a lawn or ornamental plants to control insects, particularly, soft bodied sucking insects. Pets, fowl and livestock love to have DE rubbed into their fur/feathers or have where they can take dust baths in it. Actually DE will kill any insect by dehydration.
The DE that we use is fresh water DE, which is food grade. My supplier puts a teaspoon of DE in a glass of water every day and drinks it, to keep the parasites out of his gut. When your body has a problem digesting the concentrated protein it forms Uric Acid which settles in you joints (usually always the same one) and causes lots of pain.
